What happens at the first visit

Every first visit follows the same Gonstead process, so you know what to expect.

1. 1

   Your history

   Your chiropractor asks about your symptoms, when they started, your health history, and how you work, sleep and move.

2. 2

   Examination

   We observe your posture, gait and how you move, and check the areas that have been bothering you.

3. 3

   Gonstead analysis

   An instrument called a Nervoscope is run along your spine to compare temperature between segments. Your chiropractor then feels each segment by hand, both at rest and through its range of motion. Any imaging you bring is reviewed, and if an X-ray is clinically appropriate your chiropractor will discuss it with you first.

   Findings and plan

   Your chiropractor explains what was found and whether a Gonstead adjustment is suitable for you. If it is not, we say so and may suggest you see a registered doctor.

5. 5

   Adjustment by hand

   If an adjustment is appropriate on the first visit, it is made by hand at the specific segment the findings point to. No adjustment machines are used. You also get simple movement and posture guidance for the time between visits.
